Hazelburn is the Springbank version with a triple distillation, compared to the usual double. The whisky tasted is a 13-year limited edition. Aged in ex-Oloroso Sherry barrels unfiltered and not colored, as per the tradition of the Campbeltown distillery.
Nose: notes that recall the countryside are followed by soothing hints of sulfur, barbecue and bacon. There is also a note of processed leather present, which is followed by milk chocolate, red fruits (plums and prunes) and coffee powder.
Palate: mouthfeel is gentle and of low intensity. Red fruits, spicy notes of paprika and coffee are outlined. The intensity is constantly increasing. Notes of espresso, milk chocolate, plum, red peach and malt complete the flavor profile.
Finish: long persistence and medium intensity. Notes of black pepper, malt, coffee, red fruits and vanilla are perceptible.
The only flaw of this Hazelburn 2003 Oloroso Cask Matured is the low intensity perceptible on the palate initially. Balance is optimal and the flavor profile is broad and well-faceted. Despite having a broad flavor spectrum, this whisky is endowed with a good complexity and is enjoyable at all times. However, he should be given due attention so that he can fully enjoy it.
